I will be teaching third grade this upcoming school year!! I could not be more excited about it. When I first found out that I got the job and it would be with third graders, I thought a lot about what I wanted my classroom theme to be. I toyed with ideas revolving around nature. I thought I either wanted an African safari themed classroom, or a rainforest themed classroom; however, in light of the recent oil spill in the gulf, I have decided to go with an ocean-under the sea-sailing the seas to success type of theme. I figure with my classroom set up with sealife, it will give me more of an in and opportunity to incorporate the oil spill, the effects of it, and service learning project ideas into my classroom. Even young kids should know about the things that are happening in our world, and so close to home!

I'm excited to get into my classroom and start letting my ideas come together. So far I will be creating my own job chart (may or may not be themed), a welcome banner, bookmarks and hall passes, my reading area (which will definitely be themed) and any other interesting things that may come to my mind once I get to see what my classroom will look like and what will be available to me.

I've got most of the first week planned as far as community building activities, getting to know each other activities, and procedures and routines.

Check back for pictures and posts about what I create and how I do it for my future classroom!
